Built in 1864, the National School Building located in the grounds of Warwick East State School for over 150 years was given a new lease on life.

Before restoration works commenced significant underpinning of the existing structure was required which required the demolition of the existing internal flooring and external footpaths to allow for the excavation of soil to uncover the existing sandstone footings.

Brick restoration was undertaken by a heritage brick restoration specialist which included the removal, rotation and repointing of over 9,040 bricks. The internal fit out included the cleaning, patching and painting of the internal brick work, new lighting fixtures and power points and installation of new timber floor elevated off a new internal concrete slab.

Externally, refurbishment works to doors, windows and veranda structure was followed by the installation of new concrete footpaths and compliant ramp access to the refurbished building
