Mater Hospital Pedestrian Bridge

The project required extensive planning, programming and close coordination between McNab, Abi Group, Mater and the general public.

The size and location of the bridge over busy Brisbane streets presented several logistical challenges. The 35-metre clear-span bridge was constructed off site due to height, width and length restrictions, before being transported to site and installed piece by piece during night works. Adding to the complexity, an existing link bridge also had to be carefully dismantled and removed over the same busy roadway.

The completed structure provides a safe pedestrian connection across the busy street, while its distinctive architectural design adds visual interest to the surrounding environment.
