Maroochy Private Hospital
Project Summary
McNab was engaged by Fortius and Barwon Investment Partners to deliver Maroochy Private Hospital, a major piece of healthcare infrastructure within the emerging Maroochydore City Centre.
Following McNab’s successful delivery of the landmark Sunshine Coast City Hall in 2022, the project represents our second development within the City Centre masterplan, contributing to the transformation of one of Australia’s largest greenfield sites into a vibrant destination for business, culture and community.
The 11,876m², 10-storey hospital provides six operating theatres, recovery facilities and capacity for 56 beds, alongside dedicated levels for medical and allied health tenancies. Purpose-built to support leading healthcare providers and a range of surgical and multidisciplinary services, the facility will play an important role in supporting the Sunshine Coast’s growing community and healthcare needs.
Despite the scale and complexity of the development, the project was delivered six weeks ahead of schedule through the collaborative efforts of local Sunshine Coast trades, McNab’s internal Trades & Labour workforce, Supplyhaus and Electrohire. Early contractor involvement and detailed constructability planning were critical to maintaining program certainty while navigating the building’s complex architectural and structural requirements.
A defining feature of the project is its striking façade, designed by award-winning HSPC Health Architects to incorporate passive design principles while creating a strong public presence. Approximately 25 bespoke double-height aluminium fins, each measuring seven to eight metres tall, required extensive design development and coordination to safely fabricate, handle and install behind the concrete upstands without compromising the architectural intent. Close collaboration between McNab, Supplyhaus and specialist trades enabled these intricate façade elements to be delivered to a high standard.
The project has also achieved a 4 Star Green Star rating, incorporating sustainable construction practices, energy-efficient design and an innovative Automated Waste Collection System to efficiently transfer waste and recyclables through the hospital.
Now a key part of the Maroochydore City Centre, Maroochy Private Hospital will provide much needed healthcare infrastructure for the growing Sunshine Coast community for years to come.
